“White Porcelain Bracelet”
Cultural relic restorer Shen Mo was attracted by a jade-white porcelain bead bracelet in the antique market. Each porcelain bead was carved with different flowers, and the craftsmanship was so exquisite that he recognized it as a treasure of Dehua white porcelain at a glance.
He visited Dehua, the porcelain capital, and found the maker, the old artist Chen, who was over 70 years old. The old man stroked the bracelet and said: “This is fired with the ancestral glaze recipe, the last kiln.” It turned out that the developer wanted to acquire the workshop and turn it into a commercial street. Granddaughter Chen Xue was ready to sign for the sake of her grandfather’s health.
Shen Mo repaired the broken Ming Dynasty porcelain blanks in the workshop overnight. Chen Xue saw the white porcelain shining in the moonlight, and suddenly remembered that her grandfather taught her to throw the pottery when she was a child: “Porcelain clay has a soul, and it can’t be connected again if it is broken.” The next day, she returned the deposit.
Three months later, Chen Xue found Shen Mo with the newly fired porcelain beads: “The glaze formula has been improved successfully. This time it can stand the test of time.” She put the new white porcelain bracelet on her wrist, and the twelve flowers came to life in the sunlight.
