“Tan Porcelain Fate”
Lao Chen’s “Jingtanfang” has been open for 30 years deep in the alley, specializing in small-leaf red sandalwood ceramic bracelets. This craft of combining red sandalwood with celadon beads is his original creation, and each porcelain bead is engraved with different auspicious patterns.
That day, a young man in a suit and leather shoes walked in hesitantly: “Can I customize a pair of wedding bracelets? I want them to be engraved with words.”
Lao Chen shook his head: “The porcelain beads are too small to be engraved with words.”
The young man touched the samples in the display cabinet disappointedly: “My grandmother said that the first gift my grandfather gave her was your bracelet…” As he said this, he took out a yellowed porcelain bead from his wallet, and the words “peace” were vaguely visible on it.
Lao Chen suddenly got up and went to the backyard. Half an hour later, he came out with two wooden boxes: “The porcelain body can be engraved before firing, and then embedded in the red sandalwood after firing.” On the porcelain beads of the bracelets in the box, one was engraved with “white head” and the other was engraved with “heart”.
The young man’s eyes were red: “Why do you…”
“Your grandfather asked the same question back then.” Old Chen smiled and pointed to the yellowed old photo on the wall, “My father answered at that time, ‘Because love can create miracles.'”
The sandalwood is warm and the porcelain light is bright. The two strings collided and made a crisp sound, just like the echo of love over the years.
