“Butterfly Bound”
Silversmith Ah Qi made only one bracelet in his life. He melted down the longevity lock that had been passed down from his family and hammered out nine hollow butterflies, each with the name of his late wife engraved on its wings. Neighbors said this was the behavior of a madman – how could anyone make “bondage” so beautifully? On the night the bracelet was completed, a rainstorm washed away the silver shop, but Ah Qi’s body was nowhere to be found. Only the silver chain was left hanging on the wild rose in the corner of the yard, and the butterfly flapped its wings against the raindrops, ready to fly. A hundred years later, an antique dealer displayed it at an auction: “The 19th century ‘prison butterfly chain’ is said to retain the wearer’s most persistent memories.” A girl bought it and was found fainted in her bedroom the next day, with purple marks on her wrists from the chain, and her medical records showed that her Alzheimer’s disease had healed. The nurse opened her tightly clenched diary, and the last page read: “I remember that I was a silversmith in my previous life, and the name on the butterfly’s wings… is mine.” The auction house updated the introduction: “The side effect of this product is confusion of time and space, so it is recommended to wear it with caution.”
