“Hundred Fragrance Bodhi”
Ancient temple restorer Shen Tan found a string of aged Hundred Fragrance seeds in the Sutra Library. The dark brown seeds were covered with natural patterns, like relics engraved with scriptures. The old abbot moved the Buddhist beads: “This is the mantra rosary of Master Jueming. Each of them has been heard by the Diamond Sutra 100,000 times.”

While copying the sutra that night, the seed string on Shen Tan’s wrist suddenly fell apart. She leaned over to pick it up, but saw that the rolling trajectory of the seeds formed a lotus shape, and a vague monk’s shadow emerged in the moonlight: “Tower… west side…”

The next day, she found a mezzanine on the west wall of the ruined tower. When the Hundred Fragrance seeds touched a Tibetan brick, they suddenly emitted a strange sandalwood fragrance – behind the brick was a half-roll of the “Lingyan Sutra” written in blood, and the edges of the pages were densely written with the words “crossing the river”.

“In 1943, the master jumped into the river to protect the scriptures,” the abbot trembled as he held out half a string of identical seed beads, “it turns out the other half is here…”

A sudden rainstorm, the two strings of Baixiang seeds joined themselves on the scripture table. Shen Tan suddenly saw an illusion: the young monk hid the scriptures in two places, and in the veins of the seed string, there was a Japanese army deployment map written with incense ash.

The oldest seed suddenly cracked, revealing a miniature map. The abbot’s tears fell into the incense burner: “The master did not commit suicide… He used his life to buy time for the people to cross the river.”

The morning bell rang through the mountain mist, and the two strings of Baixiang seeds reunited in front of the Buddha. Shen Tan gently stroked the veins that were polished by the years, and finally understood that some scriptures were not written in ink, but the Bodhi mind tempered by blood and fire.

(End)

Meaning: Baixiang seeds carry time and faith, and each vein is a mark of the practitioner’s life, waiting for perfection in reincarnation.
