Jade carver Zhou Yuqing was worried about the last piece of amethyst raw stone left by her father – this was the last test to inherit the century-old shop “Yuyuanzhai”, but she was tired of traditional themes and wanted to create works that could impress young people.
On a rainy night, she rescued an old man who was lost. During the conversation, the old man said that amethyst symbolizes wisdom and spirituality in Eastern culture, rather than a simple “lucky stone” in the West. Yuqing suddenly realized and carved the crystal into a miniature Zen temple: amethyst was used as tiles, and the whole courtyard was filled with purple light of wisdom when the moonlight penetrated.
After the work was exhibited, young people were attracted by the design that combined traditional and modern aesthetics. The father handed over the shop key with satisfaction: “The real inheritance is not to copy the past, but to let old objects tell new stories.”
