“The Promise of Ice-Powder Crystal”
At a summer night temple fair, senior high school girl Lin Xiaoyu used her last twenty yuan to buy a string of ice-powder crystal bracelets. The stall owner was a grandmother wearing Hanfu, who smiled and said: “This stone will change color. It will turn pink when it encounters the truth, and it will frost when it encounters lies.”
The next day in math class, Chen Yang, her deskmate who had been secretly in love with her for two years, suddenly asked her: “Do you know who has been stuffing anonymous notes into your desk for three years?” The bracelet instantly turned pink like cherry blossoms.
After school, she heard Chen Yang say to his friends in the corridor: “Actually, I don’t like Lin Xiaoyu at all…” The crystal on her wrist suddenly condensed into icicles, which pricked her wrist and hurt her.
It rained heavily that night. Lin Xiaoyu rushed back to the classroom to save the “Graduation Yearbook” that was soaked by the rain, but she saw Chen Yang squatting in front of her desk, stuffing a new note into the crack of the desk. It read: “I lied today because I was afraid that you would be as easily broken as this string of crystals after you knew that I liked you.” Transparent water drops dripped from the bracelet, and it was hard to tell whether it was melted frost or the residual warmth of a summer night rain.
