“The Guardian of Gray Agate”
Lin Xiaoman first saw the gray agate in her grandmother’s old wooden box.

It was a rainy afternoon. She sorted out her grandmother’s belongings and her fingers touched a faded red silk bag. After opening it, a gray agate the size of a pigeon egg rolled into her palm – it was not gorgeous, but it seemed to be wrapped in a layer of mist, with a few silver-white lines faintly visible, like flowing moonlight.

“This is the ‘heart-guarding stone’.” Her mother stood at the door and whispered, “My grandmother got it from an old jade craftsman when she was young. It is said that it can suppress evil and protect the owner.”

Xiaoman didn’t believe it. She just felt that the stone was warm and simple, so she put it on her neck casually.

But that night, she had a strange dream. In the dream, she stood in front of an abandoned old house, and the gray agate was slightly hot on her chest. A voice whispered in her ear: “Don’t go in…”
