[I] Broken heirloom
Jewelry appraiser Li Shuang accidentally broke her grandmother’s gold foil and colored glass bracelet – it was a family heirloom made of gold foil and colored glass left over from the renovation of the Forbidden City. As she knelt down to pick it up, she found that each piece of the fragment contained a different old time:

The diamond-shaped window pane reflected the girl with a bun

The gold foil contained a half-finished palace poem

Someone repeatedly wiped the copper door knocker in the broken glass

[II] The obsessive craftsman
Every time she put the fragments together, she would dream of a man in old-fashioned work clothes firing colored glass under a dim light. He always murmured to himself in front of the unfinished gold foil of the lotus stems: “I can almost take you to see…”

The archives of the Forbidden City show that a pair of craftsmen and sisters disappeared in a fire in 1923, and the remaining repair drawings were painted with lotus stems patterns.

On a rainy night, Li Shuang put the last piece of colored glass back in place.
The moment the lightning illuminated the workbench, she saw in the reflection of the glass – her hand was covered by another calloused hand, and a complete lotus gradually emerged on the gold foil.
