“The Tribulation of the Same Heart”
On Valentine’s Day, an antique shop on the corner of the street displayed an old silver bracelet with two interlocking hearts and “Live and Die Together” engraved on the inside. College student Lin Xia bought it for her boyfriend. That night, her boyfriend suddenly pinched his neck during a video call and screamed: “The chain… is sucking blood!”
When Lin Xia arrived, her boyfriend’s left hand was as dry as a stick, but the two hearts had turned blood red. The forensic doctor dissected the bracelet and found two golden hairs from 1937 hidden in the hollow heart, wrapped around a yellowed marriage certificate – it turned out to be a relic of a couple during the war. Before the husband was drafted, he melted their hair into the silver chain: “If I die in battle, it will accompany you on my behalf.”
But when his wife died in the bombing, the bracelet was on her husband’s hand. The entangled obsession made this token a living thing, constantly looking for new “heart-to-heart people” to fill the gap between the Yin and Yang.
Today, the bracelet is locked up in the police identification department, but every seven days, a pair of fingerprints inexplicably appear on the evidence bag, as if someone is trying to buckle the two hearts again.
