“Ink Jade Knot”
In the old shop at the deepest part of the antique street, Mr. Chen took out a string of ebony and Hetian jade bracelets. The wood color was as dark as the night, and the jade color was as warm as the moon. The eighteen beads were strung alternately, which secretly matched yin and yang.
“This string of beads is called ‘Guardian’.” Mr. Chen’s fingertips gently stroked the jade beads, “Ebony wards off evil and calms the soul, and Hetian jade nourishes the heart and keeps love. But if the wearer has too deep an obsession in his heart, the jade will gradually be stained with ink.”
College student Zhou Yuan didn’t believe these, and bought it just to match his clothes. But since he put it on, he always dreamed of a woman in a plain cheongsam, standing in an old-style courtyard, wearing an identical bracelet on her wrist, but the jade beads were half stained with sandalwood.
“Don’t wait any longer…” Every time the woman spoke, she woke up from the dream.
Zhou Yuan looked up the information and found that a hundred years ago, the daughter of a wealthy businessman was separated from her lover due to war, and she waited in vain and died in depression. What she loved most in her life was the ebony and Hetian jade bracelet given by her lover.
One night, the bracelet suddenly broke, and the ebony beads and jade beads fell off. Zhou Yuan bent down to pick them up, but found that there was a very small word engraved on the back of each jade bead – “no regrets”.
And the darkest ebony bead cracked, and inside it was a faded copper key, which was the key to an abandoned house somewhere in the old city.
