“Ghost Tears”
Late at night in an antique shop, Lin Wu was attracted by a string of amethyst bracelets in a glass cabinet – gray-white flocs were floating inside the crystal, like sealed mist.
“This is called ghost crystal,” the shopkeeper tapped the counter with his old fingers, “there are unfinished obsessions trapped inside.”
Lin Wu bought it with a sneer, but that night she dreamed that she had become a jeweler in the Republic of China, melting a strand of black hair into the crystal. When she woke up, one of the amethysts on the bracelet turned blood red.
The next day, she saw an old photo in the museum: at a jewelry exhibition in 1935, the blood-colored crystal in her dream was worn on the wrist of a warlord’s concubine, and the craftsman in the corner of the photo…had her face.
What’s even more terrifying is that the “ghost” in the crystal begins to materialize – the cheongsam figure in the mirror when she is dressing, the phonograph that plays automatically in the middle of the night, and the three knocks on the door that always sound at 3:17 in the morning…
At midnight on the seventh day, when the last crystal turned red, Lin Wu looked at another self in the mirror. The cheongsam woman raised her bloody left wrist – there was a bullet-like puncture wound there, and the shape of the wound… was exactly the outline of an amethyst.
“You finally came to complete it for me.” The person in the mirror smiled and handed over an old-fashioned pistol.
(💀The ghost amethyst metaphor: some reincarnations are bullet holes left by history)
